Insulation’s Evolution Through the Years

Insulation has undergone quite significant change over the years. Before we developed materials that make spray foam and batt insulation, insulation was composed of natural materials that most of us could not even imagine having in our homes.

Today, modern technology has made it possible to keep our homes and buildings properly insulated year-round.

The Beginning of Insulation

In order to keep their homes insulated, early people used the materials they had on hand, including animal skins, furs, mud, and straw.

In the 1930s, the development of synthetic materials allowed us to move on from natural substances to compose insulation. Fiberglass insulation became widely popular due to its excellent thermal properties, ease of installation, and affordability.

Insulation Improving Home Efficiency

In the 1970s, it was discovered that materials like fiberglass could be blown into wall cavities and attics, improving energy efficiency in existing buildings.

Advanced spray foam products also made it possible to seal air homes and buildings, and spray foam insulation became popular.

Over the years, insulation has become more and more eco-friendly, which improves the home’s energy efficiency.

Not only is insulation composed of recycled materials, but proper insulation eliminates the overuse of air conditioning and heating systems, lowering your monthly energy costs.

The evolution of insulation reflects a continuous effort to improve energy efficiency, comfort, and sustainability.
